Introduction:
Venture a little further on this active island hop. On leaving Athens the first stop is at the southernmost island of Crete, where you can walk through the mighty Samarian Gorge (said to be the longest and most beautiful gorge in Europe), before rewarding yourself by plunging into the warm Libyan sea. The volcanic island of Santorini offers much to see as we head for the sunset, walking along the rim of a 3500 year old volcano. Work on your tan at quirky Red Beach, visit one or all of the wineries in Santorini, see the buried city of Akrotiri, or is it really the lost city of Atlantis? Finally, we stop at the thyme scented island of Naxos. Your experienced trekking guide will lead you off the beaten track to explore the more remote and beautiful parts of Naxos. Climb Mt Zas, the tallest mountain in the Cyclades and stop at picturesque villages on the way.
