| Why
choose a trekking holiday?
Traditionally, trekking has been for those with a general love of the
great outdoors, and active vacations. But increasingly, clients are
choosing to trek for alternative reasons: to give themselves a break
from the pressures of modern society, or clear their minds whilst breathing
fresh air and enjoying stunning vistas of snow-capped mountains.
Kumuka treks fall into two categories: actual trekking holidays,
as well as Overland or Local Transport trips which contain a few days
trekking. Trekking makes for an excellent way to travel from A to B
through wide open spaces of the hills and plains, mountains and volcanoes,
far from the mayhem of modern cities. Unlike passively watching the
landscape go by from the window of a bus, trekking offers a challenge
and a sense of achievement.
Most treks are arranged through our partner agencies, who have a solid
and reliable background in hiking and trekking, together with unrivalled
back up and logistics experience. We use knowledgeable and energetic
guides, who are passionate about what they do, and who can provide you
with information on local fauna and flora, archaeology and landscapes,
as well as encouragement where needed!

Treks range from the challenging hike to the snow-capped summit of
Africa's most famous volcano, Mount Kilimanjaro, to the gentler though
invigorating hikes through northern Thai jungles and rice fields. You
can choose to enjoy sunrise at Mount Sinai, or sunset in the shadow
of Mount Everest. Then there are the teahouse treks of Nepal's Annapurna
range, not forgetting the most famous trek of them all: the 4 day hike
through the Andes mountains to the fabled Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
Porters are included, so you don't have the added strain of carrying
20 kilos on an aching back. Kumuka actively promotes and supports fair
treatment for porters. Almost all treks include food prepared by porters
and cooks, which is plentiful, delicious and nutritious and will set
you up for the day ahead. Good quality equipment is a crucial part of
any trek, so we provide waterproof 2-man tents, comfortable mattresses,
and spacious cook tents.
As all the arrangements taken care of by Kumuka, you are free to enjoy
the views and the scenery around you and to contemplate quietly what
may lie around the crest of the next mountain ahead.
